Asheville, NC Wedding at the Biltmore Estate

Asheville has a number of incredible venues here and in its surrounding areas, and the Biltmore is one of it’s staples. Alexsys and Austin had their wedding here in the winter at the Estate at the Deer Park venue. One of the things I tell couples in preliminary consults is that I am primarily interested in capturing each couple's individual dynamic. I want you to be able to feel at home, to feel yourself and to then see yourself in your film.

This film I think really exemplifies that. Neither Alexsys nor Austin were particularly big on the pomp and circumstance of the celebration per se. It was clear to me that they deeply loved each other, but weren’t necessarily the ones that loved being the center of attention. I really tried to lean into that aspect when putting this all together - I never wanted to put them into a box that would have felt off or foreign to them - no countless poses or asking them to do things that felt strange or weird. The end result is a film that showcases their humor, their sarcasm, and ultimately their love for each other. The Biltmore and its grounds provide plenty of epic locations, but I wanted the film to also have a very documentary approach. Using real moments, candid audio and all the stuff you just can’t plan, I pieced this together in a way that I feel captures who they are.

I remember filming their story session in August of the year prior to their wedding while they were visiting Asheville and realizing quickly that I wanted to lean into their personalities, not hide them. We didn’t try to film a Vogue fashion piece - but rather capture something real, something more than just a moving montage of images. Because of that, this film is pretty special to me.
