A tale of two weddings in Asheville, NC

2024 was a traumatic time for everyone in Asheville, NC. In Houston, TX I had grown accustomed to the threat of hurricanes - and experienced some real doozies over the years. But nothing prepared me (or my city, I think), for the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in the fall of 2024. Roads were wiped out, power out for weeks or longer, drinking water was unsafe for 2 months, and needless to say most every wedding that had been scheduled in Asheville during peak season (fall foliage) was forced to postpone or move. Jill and Nick had been planning a wedding for early October - that quickly was moved to the following spring.

But they still wanted to celebrate their nuptials, so we pivoted and went to the court house and captured their legal ceremony in the fall of 2024. Then, in the spring we celebrated their “spiritual” wedding with family and friends at Addison Farms. This provided some unique editing challenges, but also some very cool possibilities. I got to channel my inner Christopher Nolan and get weird with the timelines, cutting back and forth between different seasons and weddings often.

I never really know how I’m going to piece these films together when I’m capturing everything…but that’s the magic of the edit, and I’m really proud of how this one turned out.
