Artsy, Vibey Wedding at The Homestead, Willis, TX

I know that there are a lot of words that get overused in wedding films.

Cinematic. Artistic. Unique. Documentary. Authentic. Films for Discerning Couples. Luxury. Boutique.

Whatever you want to call it. Natalie and Ricky brought so much…dare I say “vibe?” to their wedding and I think it oozes out of this one.

I actually met Natalie when she was a baby. I used to play music with her father when I was a teenager (I’m aging myself a tiny bit here). It’s not a surprise to me that they gravitated towards the Homestead venue north of Houston…the bridal suite, grooms suite…even the bathrooms are bold, unique and stylish. The interior design work is pretty stellar. But again, as much as I love the florals, the details, the venue itself - there’s nothing better than getting down to the nitty gritty of capturing real people in real moments.

For this one Natalie and Ricky asked if we could do candid interviews of a few guests. What followed was entirely unexpected. The first part of the film is “narrated” by an uncle (or as an IG comment said, Hispanic Morgan Freeman). There really are 3 different films - the one I think I’m going to capture, the one I actually film on the wedding day, and the one I find and put together when I’m in the editing bay. So many of the most brilliant combinations and moments that happen in these films are unscripted, happy accidents that come from candid, real moments on the wedding day itself. It’s why I’m generally pretty adamant about not doing super short hours days. I want to make myself available for the candid, happy accidents.
