Micro-Wedding in the Appalachian Mountains

Justine and Joshua reached out to me about their micro-wedding in North Carolina just a few months before their date. It was more of a weekend away than a traditional wedding celebration which meant I had a lot of freedom in how I documented this. It was part Mountain elopement, part Boho wedding celebration and entirely tucked away at Triple B Ranch.

Sometimes elopements and micro-weddings feel bigger, and I think it’s because I get the time to feature more people in depth. I think of weddings as having a cast of characters - the couple are the stars, but there are also supporting cast members that are made up of family and friends. Sitting around the fire, playing games or working together to make this celebration go off without a hitch, everyone pitched in and did their part to make the weekend truly memorable.

This wedding is part of my earlier work and was one of the first times I really felt that weddings themselves can be art. Especially later in the film during Justine’s vows - there’s a sequence where I juxtaposed flowing water with the fleeting time we are given on this earth, guided by Justine’s reminder that this is what we’re given, to not take it for granted and most importantly how special it is to find someone you want to experience it all with.
